explain – describe

It seems self-evident to me that the activities known as explanation and description are both things that are done in degrees.  Whereas descriptions increase with regard to the amount of descriptive detail given, explanations increase with regard to the number of explanatory angles/modes exhausted.  We speak thus of ‘detailed’ descriptions, and of ‘complete’ explanations…

…of which, it appears (unless humanity is omniscient) there are none.
